"What Keeps You From Hearing God's Voice?"

"Tony, What keeps you from wanting to hear God’s voice?"

1. Fear that God will ask me to go “out of my comfort zone,” like he did for so many Biblical characters.

2. Fear that the voice or prompting I heard was not really God and I may look foolish if I obey.

3. Not wanting to give up my self-will vs. wanting God’s will (at any price).

4. Doubt that it is his voice vs. my imagination.

5. Being caught in the busyness of life and not willing to be still and wait patiently to hear his voice. Ps 37:7

6. Laziness to do what he asks or tells me to do. Jesus told Peter… ‘Come’, it took effort to obey. (Mt 14:19)

7. Doubt that God has ‘my’ best interest in mind.

8. Doubt that God will resource, in my time table, what he asks me to do.

9. If I start practicing ‘hearing God’ I am fearful that he will not only affirm, encourage, counsel, teach and lead me through life’s challenges… but, he will ask me to do something. I do not enjoy surprises or change.

10. My blind spots of sin, pride and ‘right’ness.

11. Being caught-up in the ‘Woe is me’ of life.

12. My roller coaster ride of anxiety (Phil 4:6), fret and worry (Ps 37:8).

13. My ability to complicate the simple. God speaks to his children. Listen.

14. Fear that I am not wise enough or skilled enough to know God’s voice.

15. Fear that I will be tricked or trapped by Satan or powers of darkness.

16. Fear that my fiends and enemies will laugh me at.

17. My not being willing to obey the Lord at any cost.

18. Fear that God is going to speak to me about my sin of the past and/or present. (Ps 50:7)

19. Not knowing God’s word the Bible well enough to discern his voice.

Note: Fear and doubt deafens and paralyzes, while faith and hope awakens the ears and heart to hear and obey. Do you want great Joy & divine Adventure in your life? Wake up your ears and heart to hear God’s voice. He will lead you into many glorious faith assignments.
